Forward Deployed Software Engineer

Location: On-site full-time at a government facility in Northern Virginia, with travel to Arlington, VA typically 4 days per month. The role operates in a restricted, classified, air-gapped environment. U.S. citizenship and an active security clearance are required; clearance must be TS/SCI with CI Poly or TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph.

Salary: $192,000–$281,000 base salary annually. Estimated total compensation: $281,000–$455,000 annually, including target bonus and estimated equity value.

What you will do

• Design and build customer-specific features, application extensions, integrations, and data pipelines for mission-critical cyber operations software.
• Work directly with government users and technical staff to understand needs, scope solutions, and make pragmatic trade-offs within restricted environments.
• Deploy and update software in coordination with customer deployment teams and Arlington-based product engineering and DevSecOps teams.
• Monitor platform health and data flows using Grafana, Loki, Tempo, and Mimir; investigate anomalies and resolve production incidents.
• Extend and field-test AI-backed capabilities and report findings from real data and users to AI engineering specialists.
• Document systems, lead root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews, participate in PagerDuty on-call, and convert field findings into fixes and platform improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production services or applications.
• Strong programming ability in at least one of Go, Python, or TypeScript, with experience delivering backend services or full-stack features end to end.
• Production debugging and operational experience with Linux, Docker, Docker Compose, logs, tracing, monitoring, and incident response.
• Experience working across specialties such as data pipelines, integrations, infrastructure, or ML-backed features.
• Experience in forward-deployed, field engineering, or customer-facing engineering roles, preferably in air-gapped, classified, or restricted environments.
• Ability to work on-site full-time at a government facility in Northern Virginia; U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with the specified polygraph are required.

Nice to have

• Hands-on ETL/ELT or data integration experience with SQL and schema design.
• Experience building LLM-backed application features or operating AI/ML systems in production.
• Experience with Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, streaming systems, message queues, AWS closed enclaves, or PostgreSQL.
• Military, intelligence, or defense contracting background.
