Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (Renewable Energy)

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, with manufacturing presence in Vancouver, Washington; travel to vendors and test sites as needed. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $105,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Partner with engineers, technicians, crews, and contractors in labs, shops, docks, manufacturing spaces, test areas, and field environments.
• Identify hazards, develop Job Hazard Analyses, assess risks, and establish practical controls before work begins.
• Coach teams on safe practices and support high-risk work including LOTO, hot work, lifting and rigging, electrical work, marine operations, field testing, and equipment installation.
• Contribute to HAZID/HAZOP assessments, engineering design reviews, construction reviews, and process development.
• Support incident investigations, corrective and preventive actions, inspections, near-miss tracking, emergency drills, and safety training.
• Help build and refine EHS policies, processes, documentation, and training materials as the company scales.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in EHS, field safety, industrial safety, construction safety, manufacturing safety, marine safety, or a related field.
• Experience in industrial operations, fabrication, manufacturing, marine or field operations, hardware test labs, or hardware development.
• Strong hazard recognition skills and practical experience developing JHAs and other hazard analysis tools.
• Experience supporting several areas including LOTO, hot work, confined-space or permit-required work, lifting and rigging, electrical work, machine guarding, chemical handling, shop fabrication, field work, or contractor safety.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard communication standards, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigations.
• Ability to work hands-on with technical teams in ambiguous, fast-changing environments and translate regulatory concepts into practical guidance.

Nice to have

• High-voltage electrical safety experience, including NFPA 70E, LOTO programs, and energized work practices.
• Marine operations or maritime safety experience, or a background in metal fabrication, engineering, hardware assembly, or industrial environments.
• Lithium-ion battery safety knowledge, including storage, handling, and hazardous waste classification.
• HAZID/HAZOP experience and familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, and regional OSHA regulations.
• Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or OSHA 30.
