Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Location: Onsite in Penrose, Colorado, eventually transitioning to Pueblo, Colorado. Applicants must be U.S. Persons eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Base salary: $70,000–$100,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS culture development and training programs across occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, process safety, and emergency response.
• Manage EHS programs, audits, policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including OSHA, ATF explosives, DOT, PHMSA, DoD safety directives, environmental regulations, and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.
• Conduct risk and hazard assessments for new processes, equipment, and materials, and perform incident investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
• Support environmental compliance, exposure strategy, chemical hazard evaluations, and SDS management.
• Maintain Emergency Response and HazMat readiness, coordinate with external agencies, and participate in the Emergency Response Team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS and 2 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in EHS and 1 year of experience, or a high school diploma/equivalent and 5 or more years of progressive Environmental, Health & Safety experience.
• Demonstrated experience across multiple EHS disciplines, including safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HazMat, ATF explosives, and environmental regulations.
• Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Ability to influence safety performance through formal and informal leadership.
• Must meet eligibility requirements for applicable state and federal explosives licenses, including being at least 21 years old, working in a drug-free workplace, completing required background investigations, and meeting applicable Department of Defense requirements.
• Must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• Experience in chemical, space, or defense manufacturing.
• Relevant EHS certifications, including HazMat or Emergency Response training or certification.
