Senior Staff Distributed Systems Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Onsite at the hirify.global office in Santa Clara, California, United States. Travel up to 15% domestically or internationally. Access to certain technology and government-contract work requires verification of U.S. Person status or an applicable export-control license or exception.

Salary: $216,136–$282,978 base salary per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and ship production backend services in Go and/or Rust.
• Build high-throughput telemetry ingestion pipelines using gNMI, NETCONF, and SNMP for large device fleets.
• Develop RESTful and gRPC APIs, real-time processing engines, and time-series storage systems.
• Build Kafka or Kinesis event-streaming pipelines and design partitioning, retention, and archival strategies.
• Own reliability through on-call participation, incident response, observability, post-mortems, and systemic improvements.
• Deploy containerized services on Kubernetes with Terraform across AWS, GCP, and Azure, while driving platform architecture and mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 12+ years of backend software engineering experience delivering production services at scale.
• Hands-on production experience with Go and/or Rust.
• Experience with distributed data systems, event streaming, time-series databases, high-throughput ingestion, consistency models, failure modes, backpressure, idempotency, and delivery semantics.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and at least one major cloud provider: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of observability tooling, including structured logging, Prometheus/Grafana or equivalent metrics, and OpenTelemetry or equivalent tracing.
• Experience with SQL, relational and time-series data models, schema design, query optimization, TDD, CI/CD, on-call ownership, and organization-level technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience with network telemetry protocols, network equipment vendors, or network management platforms.
• Experience with graph databases, YANG data modeling, or network configuration schemas.
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS backend services with data isolation and per-tenant resource management.
• Open-source infrastructure, observability, or networking contributions, or technical writing on distributed systems.
• Experience in regulated or security-conscious environments such as FedRAMP or NIST.
