Senior Software Engineer II - Kafka

Location: Remote within the United States; available locations include Poughkeepsie, Lowell, Rochester, Tucson, Research Triangle Park, Armonk, Boston, Bellevue, Atlanta, San Jose, Dallas, Austin, San Francisco, and Seattle. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $131,000–$245,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build Kora’s highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant compute layer.
• Design, architect, and develop distributed systems and infrastructure solutions end to end.
• Deliver complex production projects with a strong focus on quality and customer outcomes.
• Identify root causes and solve difficult systems and infrastructure problems.
• Collaborate with engineers, stakeholders, and customers to make effective technical decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or another statically typed language.
• At least 4 years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the cloud.
• Solid understanding of disk, networking, operating systems, and basic systems operations.

Nice to have

• In-depth JVM knowledge and experience with distributed storage systems or databases.
• Experience with resource management, quality of service, and AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with backend and frontend development, DevOps engineering, Agile collaboration, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Interest in Kafka evangelism through technical talks or blog posts.
