Product Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid preferred from San Francisco, with consideration for remote candidates and candidates near offices in Tustin, California, Atlanta, Georgia, or Phoenix, Arizona. Pacific Time working hours are required.

Salary: USD $190,000–$230,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Review new financial products and features from early development through launch, identifying legal risks and providing practical advice.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Marketing, Engineering, Risk, and other teams to support compliant product launches.
• Draft consumer-facing agreements, including loan agreements, TILA disclosures, and program terms.
• Review marketing collateral and research issues involving consumer protection, privacy, commercial agreements, and other legal requirements.
• Prioritize and own projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced and ambiguous business environment.

Requirements

• J.D. degree and bar membership in good standing.
• 5+ years of experience advising financial institutions or fintech companies as a lawyer at a leading law firm or in-house legal department.
• Experience advising on financial products, particularly consumer loans, deposit accounts, and payments.
• Ability to build strong relationships, learn rapidly, manage legal risk, and serve as a trusted business partner.
• Comfort with new and evolving technology and effective cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to work Pacific Time hours.

Nice to have

• Experience with mortgage and HELOC products, including RESPA compliance.
• Big Law experience.
• Fintech startup experience.
