Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States. Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR requirements, meaning U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons. Travel to vendors and other company sites may be required.

What you will do

• Lead the design and prototyping of mechanical hardware across component families and subsystems.
• Develop manufacturable valves, regulators, solenoids, actuators, switches, pistons, and other fluid and structural systems.
• Own products from concept through qualification and production handoff, including drawings, specifications, analyses, risk assessments, and first-unit builds.
• Lead trade studies, architecture decisions, PDRs, CDRs, qualification strategies, and technical reviews.
• Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions across development, production, and testing.
• Coordinate with customers, suppliers, test engineering, build engineering, manufacturers, and external review boards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, or materials engineering, engineering physics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of mechanical or fluid design, analysis, and hardware build experience; 7+ years of aerospace or mechanical engineering experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated ownership of a component or subsystem from concept through qualification or flight, with a record of shipping hardware.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.
• Experience with qualification testing, pressurized or propulsion fluid systems, GD&T, FEA, and CAD tools such as Siemens NX is preferred.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR. Flexible hours and occasional weekend support may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with cryogenic or high-pressure systems and formal vibration, shock, thermal, burst, cycle, or leak qualification.
• Experience writing ICDs, component specifications, and qualification plans.
• Failure investigation experience using 8D, fishbone, or fault-tree methods.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or equivalent aerospace quality systems.
• Experience with test instrumentation, control components, and presenting to customers or external review boards.
