Senior Technical Staff Engineer - Software (Embedded Linux)

Location: San Jose or Santa Rosa, California, United States

Annual base salary: $91,000–$232,000 USD, plus restricted stock units and quarterly bonus payments.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable software for embedded devices running Embedded Linux.
• Customize and maintain Pre-loader, U-Boot, Linux kernel modules, and platform software for new hardware.
• Develop Linux kernel drivers for Ethernet, Flash, SPI, I²C, UART, and other peripherals.
• Perform board bring-up on newly designed ARM-based hardware and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering, software QA, operations, and global development teams on technical strategy and project delivery.
• Prepare design documentation and functional specifications for new software modules.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 15 years of experience developing embedded platform software.
• Hands-on experience with Linux kernel internals, Linux kernel porting, U-Boot customization, and peripheral driver development.
• Strong skills in C programming, shell scripting, embedded Linux design, OS coding techniques, and debugging with GDB and Lauterbach.
• Experience with ARM-based board bring-up, IP protocols, networking software, Ethernet drivers, Firewall, Routing, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, and the Yocto framework.
• U.S. citizenship, permanent U.S. residency, or protected-individual status is required because of U.S. export controls.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with QorIQ Layerscape processors.
• Familiarity with PCI Express controllers and bus specifications.
