TL;DR
Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Marine Operations (Marine Hardware): Designing and commissioning bespoke mechanical support equipment for automated deployment, retrieval, inspection, and maintenance of offshore energy assets with an accent on marine structures, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial controls. Focus on completing trade studies, performing engineering analyses, developing detailed CAD designs, and bringing critical systems to operational readiness in harsh ocean environments.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, United States. Periodic offshore travel and travel to vendors and test sites are required. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $175,000–$200,000 per year, plus company equity.

What you will do

  • Serve as the Responsible Engineer for novel automated marine support systems.
  • Complete trade studies and define preferred system architectures and requirements.
  • Perform engineering analyses and coordinate subject matter experts as needed.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs, CAD models, schematics, and related documentation.
  • Execute and oversee fabrication, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness of critical assets.
  • Support offshore operators during initial commissioning and provide sustaining engineering.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience owning novel hardware development from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of marine mechanical systems, including welded structures, mechanical assemblies, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial automation, and data acquisition.
  • Ability to solve problems without clear examples or well-defined requirements and manage critical vendor relationships.
  • Competence with 3D modeling software and mechanical design practices; Siemens NX is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in Portland and travel offshore periodically is required.

Nice to have

  • Offshore operations experience or experience designing hardware for offshore environments.
  • Leadership experience in engineering development, fabrication, or operations.
  • Structural FEA experience.
  • Experience working with marine regulatory bodies, classification societies, or the USCG.
  • General knowledge of the marine industry, including operations and major vendors.
