Mechatronics Engineer (Hardware)

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site

Salary: $140K–$200K estimated base salary annually, plus equity; final salary depends on experience, location, and other factors.

What you will do

• Design and integrate drive-by-wire steering, braking, throttle, electric and electrohydraulic actuators, and vehicle motion and powertrain systems.
• Develop robotic mechanisms, manipulators, end-effectors, automated tooling, and material-handling systems for unmanned mine operations.
• Create detailed CAD models, drawings, tolerance stack-ups, and bills of materials for fabrication, procurement, and assembly.
• Select, size, and qualify actuators, drives, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and electric powertrain components while balancing cost, lead time, and reliability.
• Build and instrument prototypes, lead subsystem bench and rig testing, and improve reliability against MTBF and availability targets.
• Collaborate with controls, autonomy software, and systems-engineering teams to integrate actuation, compute, and sensing into complete autonomous vehicles.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Robotics, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5–10+ years of experience designing complex electromechanical or robotic systems, ideally for mobile or heavy equipment.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD.
• Hands-on experience with actuation and motion systems, including drive-by-wire, electric or electrohydraulic actuators, motors, drives, gearboxes, and system integration.
• Working knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, component selection and qualification, and supplier engagement.
• Ability to work on-site in San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, or off-highway equipment.
