TL;DR
Senior Flight Software Engineer (Embedded C/C++): Developing, integrating, and testing flight software for spacecraft computers and space missions with an accent on low-level firmware, embedded RTOS, device drivers, and GNC integration. Focus on building safety-critical software, implementing command and telemetry systems, and developing hardware simulators and communication libraries for flight systems.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California. Candidates must be eligible to work with U.S. Government space technology subject to ITAR requirements.

Base salary: $140,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test flight software for spacecraft computers and processing units.
  • Integrate complex guidance, navigation, and control algorithms with flight software.
  • Define and maintain command and telemetry databases for ground, on-orbit testing, and missions.
  • Collaborate with the ground command-and-control software team on spacecraft command scripting and sequencing.
  • Design and implement satellite subsystem simulators for hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments.
  • Develop reusable device drivers, hardware interfaces, and communications protocol libraries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of low-level firmware architecture, design, and development experience.
  • Experience with low-level device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS platforms such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, and RS485.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • 7+ years of flight software development or production experience for space applications.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, continuous delivery, embedded Linux, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with embedded systems tools, microcontrollers, application processors, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers.
  • Application experience in robotics, automation, motor control, or sensor fusion.
