Lead Database Engineer (AWS)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; in-office / hybrid

Salary: $125,000–$250,000 USD annually, plus potential clearance differential and discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design logical and physical data models and scalable database architectures for government program requirements.
• Analyze legacy database structures, identify migration risks, and move workloads to modern cloud-based architectures.
• Convert stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, and hardcoded SQL queries for target database engines.
• Build ETL functions to clean, transform, and transport legacy data into new application environments.
• Configure, implement, monitor, and tune enterprise database clusters for high availability and performance.
• Integrate database objects and architecture code into source control and CI/CD pipelines, including data generation for automated functional and performance testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field is strictly required.
• 5+ years of professional data engineering experience designing and implementing tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
• Deep experience with relational and NoSQL databases and query languages including SQL, MQL, and CQL.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS Cloud, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an active DoD Secret Clearance or be able to obtain one.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually for customer engagements.

Nice to have

• AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, Oracle, or Microsoft certifications.
• Experience migrating complex schemas between database engines.
• Familiarity with Python, Java, C#, XML, JSON, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and RHEL8.
