Principal Test Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: Sagamihara, Japan

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and release factory test strategies, processes, and tools for EML and CW laser production.
• Optimize testing for speed, scale, cost, quality, tester uptime, and utilization.
• Perform statistical analysis and troubleshoot root causes to improve product yield.
• Drive test automation, process improvements, test-time reductions, cost reductions, and yield improvements.
• Lead troubleshooting and failure-analysis activities with suppliers and Operations teams.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in test engineering or tester and equipment development.
• Experience developing software tools for statistical data analysis using SQL and JMP.
• Strong understanding of Gage R&R, correlation, test coverage, and qualification.
• Ability to interpret test results, correlate test data with fab inline processes, and apply data-driven problem solving.
• BS or MS degree in electrical engineering, information technology, or a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with semiconductor lasers, including edge-emitting lasers or VCSELs, as well as device design, process development, and characterization.
• Familiarity with photonics mounts, housings, laser diodes, LEDs, photodetectors, driver ICs, lenses, diffusers, and DOEs.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including facilitating meetings, resolving conflicts, and driving actions.
• Fluency in Japanese.
