Intern, Application Engineer (Storage)

Location: Kanagawa, Japan; onsite laboratory and engineering work.

What you will do

• Assist with the evaluation and characterization of storage products and subsystems.
• Collect, process, and analyze engineering test data using Python and other software tools.
• Develop and enhance automation scripts, internal engineering tools, and utilities.
• Support laboratory testing, including test setup, execution, equipment maintenance, and result analysis.
• Investigate performance trends and assist with root-cause analysis, signal integrity, reliability, and performance evaluations under engineer supervision.
• Create data visualizations and technical reports, document procedures and methodologies, participate in project reviews, and collaborate with engineering teams in Japan, Asia, and the United States.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Basic programming knowledge in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Interest in data analysis, automation, and hardware system evaluation.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Japanese in a professional working environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
• Strong willingness to learn new technologies and engineering methodologies.

Nice to have

• Python programming experience.
• Knowledge of digital systems, signal processing, storage systems, or communication systems.
• Experience with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or protocol analyzers.
• Basic understanding of Linux environments.
