Legal Counsel (Netherlands or U.K) (Fintech)

What you will do

• Advise product and engineering teams on the legal and regulatory aspects of payment and banking product design, development, and launch.
• Develop and execute licensing and market-entry strategies across the EU and UK, including contributing to and overseeing license applications.
• Provide regulatory guidance on payments, money transmission, cryptocurrency, foreign exchange, and cross-border transactions.
• Support corporate governance, board matters, employment and HR, privacy, intellectual property, fundraising, and strategic transactions.
• Partner with leadership, product, engineering, compliance, and growth teams to identify and mitigate legal and business risks.
• Manage external counsel and build scalable legal processes for a rapidly growing business.

Requirements

• 7+ years of legal experience in-house or in private practice.
• Excellent academic credentials and a traineeship at a top-tier law firm.
• Experience advising fintech companies and/or financial institutions.
• Strong knowledge of financial services and payments regulations, including MiCAR, PSD2, EMD, the Dutch Financial Supervision Act, and AML legislation.
• Ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice while balancing legal risk and commercial objectives.
• Strong collaboration, analytical, communication, project management, and prioritization skills.

• Knowledge of cryptocurrency and/or Banking as a Service products.
