TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Structures (Offshore Renewable Energy): Designing and validating Node structures and mechanical subsystems for long-duration operation in demanding ocean environments with an accent on structural analysis, manufacturability, corrosion-conscious detailing, and reliability. Focus on defining system architectures, solving complex load and fatigue problems, and driving designs from concept through prototype testing, factory build, and at-sea trials.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, United States. Relocation assistance is available for moving to Portland if needed.

Salary: $160,000–$210,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Own the design, analysis, and development of Node structures, secondary structures, and subassemblies.
  • Perform structural and dynamic analysis, including FEA, hand calculations, margins, and fatigue analysis.
  • Define system layouts, requirements, verification plans, and engineering trade studies.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, assembly structures, detailed drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Select materials and develop corrosion-conscious details for long-duration seawater service.
  • Plan and support validation testing from coupon and component tests through prototype and at-sea trials, while mentoring engineers and collaborating with manufacturing and offshore operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing mechanical or structural systems for complex hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of structural sizing, strength and stability calculations, mechanics of materials, and failure modes.
  • Familiarity with machining, welding, forming, joining, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and assembly management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • 7+ years of experience designing and analyzing primary structures under aerodynamic or hydrodynamic loads.
  • Proficiency with NX/Teamcenter and NASTRAN/Simcenter.
  • Experience designing welded steel structures.
  • Experience applying DNV, ABS, AWS D1.1, BPVC, or similar standards to novel applications.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
