Robotics Navigation and Control Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Remote within the United States, with periodic travel to the Atlanta facility for hardware integration, testing, and tuning on physical robots.

What you will do

• Design and optimize path planning and trajectory generation for autonomous mobile robots in constrained logistics environments.
• Develop and tune PID, MPC, or similar motion controllers for heavy-payload platforms.
• Implement obstacle avoidance, safety behaviors, and localization integration with perception systems.
• Build simulation models and validate them against real robot behavior to accelerate development.
• Analyze field data, telemetry, and logs to improve robot performance.
• Collaborate with perception, hardware, and cloud infrastructure teams and contribute to CI/CD for controls software deployment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience developing navigation and control systems for physical robots at a robotics or autonomous vehicle company.
• Strong proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Deep understanding of motion planning algorithms such as A*, D*, RRT variants, or lattice planners.
• Hands-on experience designing and tuning controllers for mobile robots, including real-world dynamics such as wheel slip and heavy payloads.
• Production experience with ROS or ROS 2 navigation stacks and localization techniques such as EKF, particle filters, scan matching, or visual odometry.
• Experience deploying algorithms on physical hardware, analyzing logs and telemetry, and working effectively in a small team.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with MPC, adaptive control, AWS IoT, Greengrass, or edge computing.
• Familiarity with Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or other robotics simulation environments.
• Background in logistics, warehousing, or heavy-payload robotics.
