Senior Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite at Bon Secours - St Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, United States

Salary: $18.65–$19.90 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Perform patient admitting, registration, demographic and insurance information collection, and pre-registration activities.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, process physician orders, complete medical necessity and compliance checks, and explain required consent and patient education forms.
• Review insurance eligibility and benefits, select insurance plan codes, support point-of-service collections, and offer payment plan options.
• Conduct account audits, correct data and documentation issues, and provide statistical reporting to Patient Access leadership.
• Develop training materials, deliver continuing education, and create staff schedules for the patient access department.
• Provide on-call and after-hours support, including coverage for staffing needs.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in a similar patient access or revenue cycle role.
• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
• Knowledge of patient insurance processes, authorizations, benefits verification, and health insurance requirements.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes.
• Ability to work onsite in Richmond, Virginia.
