TL;DR
Manufacturing Process Engineer Level 2 (Aerospace & Defense): Developing and scaling manufacturing processes for metallic structural systems from concept through production ramp with an accent on welding, fastening, adhesive dispense and cure, coatings, heat treatments, assembly, and process control. Focus on conducting trade studies, designing for manufacturability, creating SOLIDWORKS models and drawings, and establishing reliable high-rate production capabilities.

Location: Gardena, California, United States; onsite role. Must satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Salary: $125,000–$180,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Develop low-cost, high-reliability manufacturing processes for metallic structural systems in partnership with mechanical designers.
  • Bring up and own internal processes including welding, fastening, adhesive dispensing and curing, coatings, heat treatments, assembly, and integration.
  • Establish production process-control standards and test requirements supporting product life expectancy.
  • Co-develop product requirements, CapEx plans, and make-versus-buy strategies.
  • Create detailed SOLIDWORKS models and engineering drawings, including large assembly models.
  • Run testing and iteration cycles while developing a high-rate, high-yield, dependable in-house manufacturing line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–10 years of hands-on experience developing manufacturing processes.
  • Experience conducting trade studies, owning complex manufacturing processes, and introducing processes into production from scratch.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably SOLIDWORKS, with the ability to manage large assembly models and drawings.
  • Knowledge of welding, fasteners, special processes, GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, failure modes, and design for manufacturability.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR. Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
