TL;DR
Sr. Test Pilot (Aerospace): Testing, evaluating, and supporting certification of a new class of all-electric autonomous aircraft with an accent on flight-test planning, safety risk mitigation, and certification reporting. Focus on piloting support and surrogate aircraft, validating unmanned aircraft mission profiles, and translating engineering data into operational use cases.

Location: Onsite at the Hollister, California flight test facility; infrequent travel to offsite test locations and training facilities is required.

Salary: $126,000–$157,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Author air vehicle and subsystem test plans.
  • Evaluate test hazards and establish appropriate safety mitigations.
  • Conduct flight testing and safety chase operations using general aviation support aircraft, surrogate flying test beds, and uncrewed aircraft systems.
  • Develop, review, and approve trajectory planning for unmanned aircraft mission profiles.
  • Report test results to certification-authority standards.
  • Support program documentation, including test restrictions, special instructions, Aircraft Flight Manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures.

Requirements

  • FAA Commercial Pilot or ATP certificate for fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Minimum FAA Second Class Medical certificate.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a test pilot or flight test engineer in fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft testing, or comparable complex aerospace systems; alternatively, 7+ years of aviation industry experience involving critical thinking and data analysis.
  • Experience with flight and operations safety risk management, mission-related engineering data, and operational use cases.
  • Ability to work with engineering teams on vehicle design and behavior, with strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

  • 500+ hours of flight experience and unmanned aircraft flight operations experience.
  • Experience with FAA, TCCA, or EASA certification programs.
  • Electric propulsion or high stored-energy test experience.
  • Both fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight test experience, including formation flight experience.
  • Experience with human-to-vehicle interface design, test and evaluation, MBSE processes, or a relevant master’s degree.
