TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Developing BOMs, should-cost models, and technical recommendations for aerospace and defense components with an accent on manufacturability, supplier comparisons, and production feasibility. Focus on interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T, evaluating manufacturing processes and factory capabilities, and supporting bids and post-award execution.

Location: El Segundo, United States. Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons.

Annual salary: $115,000–$170,000 USD

What you will do

  • Develop complete bills of materials from engineering drawings and requirements, and build should-cost models for incoming opportunities.
  • Compare designs, materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to identify low-risk, cost-effective production approaches.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and military and aerospace specifications to evaluate manufacturability and factory fit.
  • Support feasibility and cost analysis through CAD work, production planning, engineering change evaluations, and tooling assessments.
  • Serve as the technical contact for post-award execution and quality resolution.
  • Maintain a capability map across factories, identify gaps, and recommend capital investments or supplier partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, supply chain, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of full-time technical engineering experience in aerospace, defense, or a similar hardware industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and military and aerospace specifications.
  • Experience building accurate BOMs from drawings and requirements.
  • Understanding of CNC machining, casting, forging, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and surface treatments.
  • Working proficiency in CAD and strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • 6+ years of progressively responsible manufacturing, technical, or supply chain experience.
  • Experience with cost estimates, should-cost models, or bid pricing for manufactured components or assemblies.
  • Experience with government or aviation supply chain programs and federal procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with technical data packages and experience across multiple manufacturing sites.
