TL;DR
Offshore Technician, Communications (Marine Communications): Operating, maintaining, and repairing communications hardware and software for a North Pacific offshore energy pilot fleet with an accent on satellite communications, radio protocols, and networking infrastructure. Focus on deploying and recovering offshore equipment, commissioning new systems with engineering, cross-training technicians, and training international crews.

Location: Rotational offshore schedule based around Portland, Oregon; candidates outside the Portland area may be accommodated, with a preference for the Pacific Northwest. International travel and relocation to Portland may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Support deployment, recovery, operation, maintenance, and repair of a North Pacific pilot fleet.
  • Operate and maintain offshore communications hardware and software, including radio, satellite communications, and networking systems.
  • Cross-train across mechanical, hydraulic, and deck operations disciplines.
  • Train team members on communications hardware, software, and theory.
  • Work with engineering to commission and test new offshore equipment and improve operational methods.
  • Travel internationally to train crews on newly developed offshore operations.

Requirements

  • Experience working offshore for extended periods.
  • Hands-on experience operating and repairing communications equipment in a marine, offshore, military, or comparable remote-field environment.
  • Ability to lead training and participate in interdisciplinary training.
  • Ability to spend up to 50% of the year offshore and travel 300+ miles offshore.
  • Active TWIC or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, seven days per week while on hitch, and maintain a strong safety culture.

Nice to have

  • Basic AC and DC electrical theory.
  • Exposure to mechanical and hydraulic industrial equipment.
  • Experience fabricating and commissioning industrial equipment.
  • Experience working with engineering teams and maintaining PLC systems.
