TL;DR
Senior Employment Counsel (U.S. and International Employment Law): Advising People/HR and business leaders on the full employee lifecycle and cross-border employment matters across U.S. and international jurisdictions with an accent on compliance, disputes, investigations, and employment policies. Focus on managing multi-country legal risk, directing outside counsel, supporting global mobility and M&A activities, and providing practical guidance in a high-growth environment.

Location: New York City office; in-person collaboration required at least three days per week. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the New York metropolitan area.

Salary: Estimated base salary of $200,000–$280,000 per year, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

  • Advise the People/HR function and business leaders on recruiting, performance management, leave and accommodation matters, terminations, restrictive covenants, and the full employee lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance on cross-border employment, local labor-law compliance, employee representatives, global mobility, and international assignments.
  • Manage employment disputes, agency charges, demand letters, litigation, regulatory inquiries, and outside counsel across multiple countries.
  • Draft, review, and localize employment policies, handbooks, offer letters, separation agreements, and employment agreements.
  • Lead or support employee investigations, separations, manager training, and risk assessments related to legal and regulatory developments.
  • Support employment diligence and integration work for M&A and other strategic transactions.

Requirements

  • J.D. and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; New York admission or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in New York is preferred.
  • 8+ years of substantive employment law experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both.
  • Hands-on employment law experience outside the U.S. is required, including work in EMEA, APAC, or other international jurisdictions.
  • Experience managing outside counsel across multiple countries and legal systems, including employment litigation, regulatory inquiries, and pre-suit disputes.
  • Experience with internal investigations, global mobility, immigration or international assignments, and employee representative bodies such as European works councils.
  • Strong judgment, communication, prioritization, and ability to provide practical advice to non-lawyers in a fast-moving environment.

Nice to have

  • Admission in New York or ability to register as in-house counsel in New York.
  • Experience supporting employment matters in an M&A context.
  • Direct experience with European works councils or other employee representative bodies.
