Reliability Engineer (Optical Photonics)

Location: On-site in Ottawa, Canada

Salary: CAD 71,450–102,100 per year, with potential annual bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define, plan, schedule, and oversee qualification and reliability testing for raw materials, sub-components, and finished optical and photonic products.
• Coordinate with test engineers, technicians, cross-functional product development teams, and external laboratories to complete testing on schedule.
• Assess product reliability and durability against customer requirements, industry standards, market expectations, and target lifetimes.
• Predict failure rates and product availability, monitor field reliability, and compare deployed-product performance with predictions.
• Analyze reliability data, identify improvement opportunities, and report findings and recommendations.
• Perform reliability risk assessments using physics of failure, acceleration modeling, experimentation, and appropriate measurement and acceptance criteria.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Previous experience in reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, test engineering, or process engineering.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret technical literature, reports, and data.
• Knowledge of electronics, optics, optical communication equipment, and related manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with electrical and optical measurements, electromagnetic compatibility testing, and international safety requirements for communication equipment.
• Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia qualification standards.

Nice to have

• ASQ CRE or Six Sigma certification.
• Experience with electrical components such as ICs, processors, clocks, FPGAs, and interconnects.
• Experience with optical components such as lasers, optical detectors, switches, WSS, MEMS, and LCOS.
• Knowledge of Weibull++, BlockSim, JMP, and Microsoft Excel.
