Component Engineer – Optical Commodity

Salary: CAD 107,000–160,800 per year

What you will do

• Define qualification requirements for pluggable optical transceivers using applicable industry standards.
• Qualify active optical components and establish qualification strategies for onboarding and lifecycle management.
• Conduct supplier audits and track corrective actions through resolution.
• Evaluate product change notifications and coordinate internal reliability-impact reviews.
• Coordinate qualifications for new revisions, replacement components, and new manufacturers, including approved vendor list updates.
• Evaluate alternate components and analyze assembly-level test yields to support supply continuity, quality, and product performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Applied experience with reliability, quality, and failure-mechanism analysis for telecommunications components and assemblies.
• Experience delivering cost-reduction activities and applying telecommunications specifications, manufacturing processes, and data-driven decision-making.
• Knowledge of Telcordia, IPC, and JEDEC standards.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and influence internal and external stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with pluggable optical transceiver manufacturability and production readiness.
• Experience improving manufacturing yields with supplier operations and coordinating component-level issue resolution.
• Knowledge of EU RoHS, REACH, and Conflict Minerals requirements.
• Experience supporting material shortage resolution, supplier negotiations, and supply agreements.
• Strong communication skills for articulating technical issues.
