TL;DR
Senior Stage Fluids Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating fluid systems between the tanks and engines of the Neutron launch vehicle with an accent on valves, pressure vessels, cryogenic systems, manufacturability, and reliability. Focus on modeling fluid networks, qualifying hardware in launch environments, optimizing designs from test data, and establishing production and testing standards.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. For U.S. office roles, candidates must meet ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or the ability to obtain required authorizations.

Base pay range: $115,200–$198,000 USD annually for California.

What you will do

  • Design plumbing systems, fluid components, and secondary structures for the Neutron launch vehicle.
  • Analyze fluid systems and components in dynamic launch environments, including structural analysis reviews.
  • Model system behavior across operating conditions and improve analysis tools and workflows.
  • Test, qualify, and integrate fluid hardware into the launch vehicle.
  • Review component, system, and vehicle test data to optimize future designs.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, structures, mechanical, operations, and flight software teams while mentoring engineers and setting design, production, and testing standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a hardware-rich environment for Senior I, or 8+ years for Senior II.
  • Experience designing and using fluid components, including valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings.
  • Experience with DfM/DfAM, machining, welding, mechanical drafting, and GD&T.
  • Must satisfy applicable U.S. ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements for work in U.S. offices.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a fast-paced aerospace environment and with aerospace processes, standards, and workflows such as AS9100 and JIRA.
  • Experience designing for aerospace constraints involving mass, manufacturability, function, and cost.
  • Experience with oxygen, methane, or cryogenic systems.
  • Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Advanced degree in a fluid-mechanics-heavy field or experience collaborating with distributed global teams.
