Senior Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: London, UK (Canary Wharf); on-site expectation of up to 5 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support scalable backend services, REST APIs, and cloud-native microservices.
• Build distributed and event-driven systems using messaging and asynchronous processing patterns.
• Drive architecture, coding standards, testing, automation, and modern software delivery practices.
• Support production systems through incident management, troubleshooting, and operational resilience activities.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to balance architecture goals with delivery priorities.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and promote responsible AI-assisted software development.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Java and/or Kotlin and the JVM ecosystem.
• Expertise in REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, messaging, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with AWS or multi-cloud cloud-native environments.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, data architecture patterns, CI/CD, DevOps, and automation.
• Experience with unit, component, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing, plus production support.
• Banking, payments, fintech, or financial services experience, including customer-facing platforms or transaction processing systems.
