Senior Lead Database Reliability Engineer

Location: Remote - US

Salary: $168,000–$210,000 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and applicable benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap and architecture for database reliability across PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, ScyllaDB, Aerospike, and managed cloud database services.
• Build Kubernetes operators, infrastructure-as-code, GitOps workflows, and Go or Python tooling for provisioning, failover, backups, migrations, and lifecycle management.
• Define service-level objectives, improve observability and capacity planning, validate backup and recovery, and lead critical production incidents.
• Optimize database performance, storage, resource efficiency, and costs across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Partner with application engineering teams on schema reviews, migration strategies, query optimization, connection management, and zero-downtime deployments.
• Use AI for observability, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, documentation, and engineering productivity while validating generated code for reliability and security.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in Database Reliability Engineering, Database Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering with a strong database focus.
• Deep expertise in a major relational database, preferably PostgreSQL, plus operational experience with additional relational, NoSQL, and managed cloud databases.
• Experience operating stateful Kubernetes workloads with StatefulSets, Persistent Volumes, database operators, Terraform or Pulumi, FluxCD or ArgoCD, GKE, or EKS.
• Hands-on Go or Python development for automation, platform tooling, Kubernetes controllers, APIs, and infrastructure.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, service-level objectives, capacity planning, performance optimization, and self-service engineering solutions.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, including mentoring, architectural influence, technical documentation, and cross-team collaboration. A gaming license issued by the appropriate state agency may be required as a condition of employment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, MCP, or similar AI tools for engineering and operational workflows.
