TL;DR
Spacecraft Mechanical Production Engineer (Senior-Lead) (Aerospace): Building scalable manufacturing processes and factory capabilities for spacecraft mechanical structures, mechanisms, deployables, and ground support equipment with an accent on manufacturability, production quality, and high-rate manufacturing. Focus on leading production engineering teams, making go/no-go manufacturing decisions, resolving shop-floor bottlenecks, and scaling aerospace production systems.

Location: Hybrid role near Long Beach, California, with some work required onsite. Candidates must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 base salary per year, with equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead and mentor spacecraft mechanical production engineers, including technical development, production metrics, and performance management.
  • Own production engineering strategy and execution for mechanical structures and mechanism systems across developmental and high-rate spacecraft programs.
  • Partner with design engineering on technical reviews and manufacturability decisions from concept through production.
  • Build and scale factory capabilities, manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, and equipment for assembly, integration, and testing.
  • Support production-floor operations by resolving bottlenecks, non-conformances, and technical issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement, supplier development, make-or-buy decisions, and calibration of mechanical ground support equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability systems appropriate to the role’s scope.
  • Experience with PLM, MES, configuration management, and data management systems.
  • Experience working with AS9100 processes and standards.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication, assembly, and testing, including precision drilling, fastening, bonding, composite layup, CNC machining, welding, additive manufacturing, and surface treatment.
  • Experience building and producing classified hardware in SCIFs or SAP facilities, and eligibility under U.S. ITAR regulations, is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing, manufacturing, testing, and integrating spacecraft mechanical structures and mechanism systems.
  • Experience selecting and commissioning production equipment.
  • Expertise in composites, metallics, CNC machining, bonding, additive manufacturing, tooling, structural integration, precision alignment, or interface control.
  • Spacecraft mechanical or structural environmental and qualification testing experience, including vibration, acoustic, and thermal testing.
