Staff Software Engineer (Authentication Platform)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite five days per week

Salary: $222,011–$258,300 annual base salary

What you will do

• Define the technical roadmap and architecture for authentication platform services.
• Lead the design and implementation of sign-in, registration, MFA, federation, and account lifecycle features.
• Drive cross-team alignment on authentication standards, shared infrastructure, and architectural decisions.
• Develop security practices covering threat modeling, credential protection, session management, abuse mitigation, and real-time risk signals.
• Set standards for code quality, testing, observability, incident response, and platform reliability.
• Mentor engineers and champion AI-assisted development practices using tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience with impact at a senior or staff level.
• 5+ years of backend services engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• At least one year of daily experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.

Nice to have

• Expertise in OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, FIDO2/WebAuthn, federation, SSO, and enterprise identity integrations.
• Experience building or operating IdP or IAM platforms at scale.
• Familiarity with NIST SP 800-63, FedRAMP, or Kantara Initiative requirements.
• Experience with authentication security, account takeover prevention, rate limiting, session security, or React-based authentication UX.
• Startup or high-growth company experience and a track record of mentoring senior engineers.
