TL;DR
Software Systems Engineer (Aerospace) (MBSE/Requirements): Defining, integrating, and verifying software systems for a commercial space station and its infrastructure with an accent on requirements traceability, interface definition, safety analysis, and multidisciplinary integration. Focus on architecting software-intensive systems, planning SIL/HIL verification, and managing complex requirements across the full lifecycle in a standards-driven environment.

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; generally an office environment. Evening and weekend work may be required for critical project milestones.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial human spaceflight services, advanced spacesuits, and next-generation orbital infrastructure beginning with Axiom Station.

What you will do

  • Define, integrate, and verify software systems supporting commercial space station operations and infrastructure.
  • Author functional, performance, safety, cybersecurity, and interface requirements using a model-based approach.
  • Maintain bidirectional traceability from concepts of operations through system, software, design, and test stages.
  • Define interface control documents, message schemas, timing budgets, failure behaviors, and software architecture trades.
  • Collaborate with avionics, network, FPGA, hardware, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on end-to-end integration.
  • Plan verification methods and acceptance criteria, and support SIL/HIL environments, test benches, laboratories, and flight or field test readiness.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
  • Eligibility for access to export-controlled technical data under NASA regulations, ITAR, or EAR is required; additional export-control screening may apply.
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience on software-intensive programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, electrical, systems engineering, computer science, or another technical or engineering field.
  • Experience authoring and managing software and system requirements, maintaining lifecycle traceability, defining interfaces, and planning verification activities.
  • Hands-on MBSE experience with SysML or an equivalent modeling language, plus proficiency with a requirements management tool such as Jama, DOORS, or Innoslate.

Nice to have

  • Experience with aerospace, spaceflight, human-rated, or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with SIL/HIL integration, test benches, flight or field test readiness, safety analyses, hazard analysis, fault response, or DAL/criticality determinations.
  • Experience with GitLab CI or equivalent DevSecOps and CI pipeline tooling.
  • Experience in Agile or hybrid Agile/waterfall environments.
  • INCOSE membership or ASEP/CSEP certification.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven work focused on commercial human spaceflight and orbital infrastructure.
  • Collaboration across software, hardware, avionics, network, and FPGA disciplines.
  • Standards-driven, MBSE-based development with emphasis on technical rigor, accountability, execution discipline, and delivery quality.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
