Head of Hardware (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Canada

Salary: CA$200K–CA$240K plus equity

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and convergence of the capture device’s electrical, firmware, mechanical, and optical subsystems.
• Set the quality and reliability standards for a body-worn device and guide testing and design decisions.
• Drive the product from prototype through EVT, DVT, and PVT to mass production with industrial design, supply chain, and manufacturing partners.
• Build, lead, and grow the hardware engineering team and own its hiring roadmap.
• Turn field and factory data into design improvements.
• Define the engineering approach for thermal performance, mechanical durability, connector reliability, and wear during all-day motion.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hardware engineering experience, including shipping consumer or wearable hardware at volume.
• Direct ownership of at least one reliability ramp from prototype through mass production.
• Broad systems engineering experience with deep expertise in at least two of embedded or firmware, electrical, mechanical, and optical engineering.
• Experience driving architecture convergence and cross-disciplinary trade-offs in complex consumer electronics.
• Experience owning hardware quality standards and DVT or reliability processes.
• Experience leading cross-functional hardware teams and collaborating with contract manufacturers, ideally in China.

Nice to have

• Experience with body-worn or always-on devices such as action cameras, wearables, AR/VR, or health and fitness products.
• Experience at a hardware organization known for execution at scale, such as Meta Reality Labs, GoPro, DJI, Insta360, or a wearable startup.
• Experience with camera and optics systems and on-device compute, including ML workloads on edge hardware.
