TL;DR
Sr. Systems Engineer (Avionics): Designing and developing Flight Test Ground Control Station and Airborne Communications systems for an autonomous passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft with an accent on safety-critical architecture, requirements, integration, and verification. Focus on defining C2-link avionics and ground infrastructure, integrating aircraft and ground-system interfaces, and supporting FAA/EASA-compliant flight-test systems.

Location: Hollister, California, United States; hybrid work with onsite attendance at the Hollister office 3 days per week. The role requires approximately 10% travel.

Salary: $147,000–$184,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and develop Flight Test Ground Control Station and Airborne Communications systems supporting the Gen 6 flight test campaign.
  • Define systems for aircraft communication, C2-link avionics software, ground infrastructure, and aircraft-to-ground data collection and distribution.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering artifacts, architectures, functions, requirements, and system interfaces.
  • Support requirements validation, verification, hardware/software testing, debugging, and integration of GCS products.
  • Define technical solutions and coordinate integration with flight-test, aircraft software, and external partner teams.
  • Contribute to safety-critical trade studies and system integration aligned with FAA/EASA performance, size, weight, power, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or an equivalent field, plus 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional experience in aircraft, avionics, autonomous vehicles, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Familiarity with Python, VSCode, Docker, and Polarion.
  • Experience with aviation documentation, CONOPS, test documentation, ICDs, system requirements, requirements verification, and hardware/software testing.
  • Ability to read schematics and perform basic hardware debugging, with familiarity with FAA-certified systems and agile development.
  • Knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4761, Part 23/25, AC XX.1309, or similar aviation standards.
