Staff Software Engineer - Applications, Full Stack (AI)

Location: On-site five days per week in McLean, Virginia, United States

Salary: $183,367–$214,500 USD annual base salary, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the technical vision for integrating Claude and other LLMs into member support applications.
• Design and deploy autonomous agents that automate manual call center and supervised identity verification workflows.
• Guide the evolution of verification UI flows and integrate AI-assisted tools into agent and member experiences.
• Develop shared UI components, API patterns, and scalable infrastructure for multi-product verification workflows.
• Ensure AI-driven automation meets IAM, security, and data protection standards.
• Mentor engineers on prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and full-stack development while leading A/B testing and fraud-detection experimentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of full-stack engineering experience, including scaling customer-facing applications.
• At least one year of hands-on LLM integration experience with Claude or OpenAI and agentic workflow development.
• Experience with MCP or similar patterns for connecting LLMs to data.
• At least five years of experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, and React/TypeScript.
• Ability to work on-site five days per week in the McLean, Virginia office.

Nice to have

• Experience with component-driven design, state management, PostgreSQL, design systems, shared component libraries, and modular SDKs.
• Experience building human-in-the-loop AI systems for call centers or support environments.
• Knowledge of identity verification, NIST, IAL2, IAM, and digital security.
• Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and setting technical direction.
• Familiarity with data pipeline tools for feature flags, transformation, and secure data transmission.
