TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Marine Operations (Marine Hardware): Designing, building, and testing bespoke mechanical support equipment for deploying, retrieving, inspecting, and maintaining offshore energy assets with an accent on welded structures, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial controls. Focus on completing trade studies, performing engineering analyses, managing fabrication and commissioning, and supporting offshore operations in harsh ocean environments.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, United States; periodic offshore travel and travel to vendors and test sites required. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $125,000–$175,000 per year, plus company equity.

What you will do

  • Own the development of novel marine support systems as the Responsible Engineer.
  • Perform trade studies, define requirements, and select system architectures.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and coordinate subject-matter expert support.
  • Design bespoke mechanical equipment, including CAD models and schematics.
  • Oversee fabrication, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness of critical assets.
  • Support offshore operators during initial commissioning and through sustaining engineering.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience developing novel hardware from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of marine-system engineering fundamentals, including welded structures, mechanical assemblies, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial automation, and data acquisition.
  • Ability to solve problems without clear examples or well-defined requirements and manage critical vendor relationships.
  • Competence with 3D modeling software and mechanical design practices; Siemens NX is preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in Portland and travel offshore periodically; occasional longer hours and weekend work may be required for critical needs.

  • Structural FEA experience.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Field engineering and fabrication campaign experience.
  • Experience creating qualification and acceptance test protocols.
  • Experience designing hardware for offshore environments.
