TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineers (Propulsion): Designing and developing turbojet engine components and subsystems for a high-performance small turbine engine with an accent on CAD, CFD, FEA, and manufacturing optimization. Focus on owning hardware through concept generation, prototyping, testing, and iteration while solving complex rotating-machinery and propulsion engineering challenges.

Location: On-site in San Luis Obispo, California, United States. Candidates must be U.S. Persons and authorized to access U.S. export-controlled information and facilities.

Salary: $115,000–$150,000 for Engineer and $155,000–$195,000 for Senior, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Design turbojet engine components and subsystems using Siemens NX, CAD, CFD, and FEA.
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings optimized for manufacturing and performance.
  • Participate in concept generation, trade studies, prototyping, testing, and design iteration.
  • Work directly with test teams to validate propulsion hardware.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, machining, test, and engineering teams to deliver components on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience with propulsion, powertrain, or mechanical assemblies involving high-speed rotating hardware.
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX and familiarity with PLM tools such as Teamcenter.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, tolerance control, structures, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with prototyping and testing in laboratory or shop environments.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and authorized to work in the United States; access to export-controlled technology may require authorization without export-license sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience with turbomachinery, small turbine engines, or air-breathing propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of high-rate manufacturing and DFM principles.
  • Experience with composites and high-temperature alloys.
  • Experience designing test rigs, integrating components, or validating hardware.
  • Understanding of defense or aerospace regulations and qualification processes.
