Animal Care and Research Support Specialist

Location: Onsite in Groton, Connecticut, United States. Weekend and holiday work are required, with a 6:00 AM–2:30 PM shift and weekend work every other week. This is an essential personnel role requiring attendance at the designated work location during emergencies or operational suspensions.

Salary: $29.83–$49.72 per hour, plus possible overtime, weekend, holiday, and other pay premiums.

What you will do

• Perform routine husbandry, handling, restraint, and health surveillance for all animal species housed at the site.
• Observe and report animal health, food and water consumption, appearance, and behavior.
• Support basic veterinary treatments prescribed by veterinary staff.
• Provide technical services for research studies, including restraint, dose administration, injections, and blood collections.
• Operate and support maintenance of cage-wash equipment and maintain animal-supply inventories.
• Train and mentor new hires in animal husbandry and facility-support duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four years of relevant experience, plus certifications.
• Permanent authorization to work in the United States; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work standing for extended periods, including lifting above shoulder level, pushing and pulling caging racks, and repetitive bending and reaching.
• Proof of measles immunity or measles vaccination before hire is required for access to nonhuman primate areas.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and the assigned early shift.

• Strong attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, prioritization, and independent and collaborative working skills.
