Staff C++ Architecture Engineer (Robotics)

Location: On-site in the Carson, California office, Los Angeles area

Salary: $190,000–$230,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

Its Robots-as-a-Service platform helps manufacturers improve workforce safety and quality while increasing production capacity and reducing scrap, repair, and rework.

What you will do

• Design and implement production-quality C++ and Python tooling for ROS and ROS 2 nodes, libraries, and utilities.
• Integrate cameras, LiDAR, robot controllers, sensors, and actuators; develop device drivers, message interfaces, health checks, and diagnostics.
• Architect scalable, testable subsystems for configuration, state machines, fault recovery, and observability.
• Diagnose performance and scalability issues in robotic software and improve code quality, efficiency, and reliability.
• Own components, features, or systems end to end and develop reusable interfaces with back-end platforms.
• Collaborate with product, design, operations, and infrastructure teams; conduct code reviews and document best practices for safety and maintainability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of industry experience developing and shipping production software in modern C++.
• Experience with large-scale system design, software architecture, concurrency, and real-time programming.
• Proven ownership of delivered components, features, or systems, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must qualify under U.S. export-control requirements as a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of hands-on ROS or ROS 2 experience.
• Experience debugging real robots and embedded systems using logs, tracing, sanitizers, and core dumps.
• Expertise in object-oriented design, API development, SOLID principles, and clean architecture.
• Proficiency with Linux, CMake, colcon, Git, and CI tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or Robotics, or experience as a technical mentor or thought leader.
