Staff Engineer (AI)

Salary: $170,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

• Improve enterprise-grade retail software for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Set technical direction and make architecture decisions that shape system evolution.
• Scope, refine, and stress-test customer-facing features with stakeholders and customers.
• Design unified solutions for problems spanning multiple teams and integrations.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for engineering judgment, code quality, and craft.
• Plan, estimate, sequence, and de-risk complex work from ambiguity through production.

Requirements

• Experience building and operating production systems at scale, typically demonstrated through around 8+ years of experience.
• Deep hands-on experience with at least one modern backend stack; relevant technologies include .NET/C#, TypeScript, Ruby, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, and MongoDB.
• Experience designing scalable data models across relational and non-relational databases.
• Routine use of LLMs for system research, issue diagnosis, solution planning, coding, code review, and monitoring shipped work.
• Ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly, coordinate across teams, and own production outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience in the cannabis industry.
• Experience building POS, ecommerce, payments, retail, or commerce technology.
• Experience building and monitoring cloud-native infrastructure on AWS.
• Experience with third-party integrations or AI-assisted engineering workflows and agents.
