Director of Engineering (Distributed Systems)

What you will do

• Build and scale high-performance engineering teams across globally distributed squads.
• Define technical vision, roadmaps, delivery goals, and execution standards.
• Contribute to architecture and technical plans for distributed systems handling messaging, payments, translations, and notifications.
• Partner with product managers, senior architects, stakeholders, and C-suite leaders to translate technical complexity into business decisions.
• Establish engineering excellence through code review, testing discipline, continuous learning, and quality standards.
• Balance delivery speed, product priorities, reliability, and technical debt management.

Requirements

• Experience managing and scaling development teams and building high-performing engineering organisations.
• Significant experience building and operating large-scale web software serving millions of users.
• Experience with modern frontend stacks such as Angular, React, or Vue, and distributed backend systems.
• Strong technical depth in architecture, troubleshooting, delivery, and production engineering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder influence, mentoring, and ownership skills.
• Tertiary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• AWS cloud architecture focused on scalability, reliability, and cost optimisation.
• SOA, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration experience.
• Public API design, Python, Go, modern JavaScript frameworks, relational databases, SQL, and distributed data systems.
• Knowledge of Windows, Linux, networking, load balancing, CDN optimisation, OWASP, and web security.
