Senior Director, AI Software Engineering

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Hybrid work model with onsite work at least 50% of the time for employees within commuting distance of a hirify.global office.

Pay range: CAD 250,000–310,000 annually.

What you will do

• Lead delivery of AI-powered capabilities for risk analysis, compliance automation, reporting, and due diligence workflows.
• Partner with product, data, and platform teams to translate business problems into scalable AI systems.
• Contribute to architecture, code reviews, critical-path implementation, and technical standards for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Prototype and validate LLM, agent, retrieval, classification, vector search, embeddings, and model-serving approaches.
• Build, mentor, hire, and develop AI/ML and software engineering teams.
• Drive production delivery, prioritization, security, privacy, compliance, and communication with senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with recent hands-on production coding.
• Track record of shipping production systems at scale.
• Strong backend engineering skills with Python, Java, or a similar language.
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms, and modern AI/ML systems including LLMs, NLP, search, or data platforms.
• Experience leading technically engaged engineering teams and communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to operate in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and deliver measurable business impact.

Nice to have

• Experience in GRC, fintech, or regulated environments.
• Exposure to FedRAMP or similar compliance frameworks.
• Experience building AI-powered products rather than only conducting research.
