Freelance Design Lead

Location: Remote within the United States only; Seattle-based candidates are especially welcome, with regularly scheduled onsite client visits and meetings.

Expected weekly compensation: 2,500–3,000 USD.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on creative direction and guide designers in producing digital product experiences.
• Lead the creation, maintenance, and evolution of complex design systems for scalability, consistency, and high-quality craft.
• Shape creative vision for digital platforms and products in alignment with client goals and user needs.
• Collaborate with UX, strategy, and development teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Present creative concepts and design solutions to clients and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior and mid-level designers and promote a culture of creative excellence.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in UI design, art direction, or a related field, supported by a strong portfolio of digital platforms and products.
• Proven ability to lead, inspire, mentor, and develop design teams.
• Deep expertise in creating and evolving scalable design systems.
• Strong knowledge of user interface, application, mobile, and responsive design principles.
• Expert proficiency in Figma, including advanced component and library management.
• Exceptional communication skills and experience presenting and defending creative work to clients.

• Experience working with cross-disciplinary UX and development teams.
• A proactive mindset, adaptability, and a strong point of view that encourages conceptual thinking.
