Location: Palo Alto, United States. This is an onsite position requiring attendance in the office five days per week; limited remote work of up to two days per week may be available after ramp-up, subject to manager alignment and business needs. Travel to overseas suppliers may be required for up to 15% of the time.
Salary: $170,000–$250,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do
- Define battery and electromechanical hardware validation strategies from prototype through production release, including testing scope, acceptance criteria, and sign-off requirements.
- Design performance, reliability, durability, environmental, thermal, electrical, mechanical, and abuse test methodologies based on real-world usage and manufacturing variation.
- Build and bring up prototypes, fixtures, instrumentation, automation tools, and lab infrastructure.
- Debug hardware, perform root-cause and failure analysis, and independently operate test equipment.
- Analyze test data and translate findings into design actions, risk assessments, and product-readiness decisions.
- Collaborate with Battery Design, BMS, Systems, Vehicle Engineering, suppliers, contract manufacturers, certification agencies, and external test laboratories.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience testing and validating complex electromechanical assemblies, including batteries, with ownership of validation strategy and production sign-off.
- Strong hands-on experience building fixtures, instrumenting hardware, debugging systems, and operating test equipment independently.
- Proficiency with DAQs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, environmental chambers, sensors, and Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis.
- Ability to reason from first principles across electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical domains and to write validation strategies and test plans.
- Willingness to work directly with overseas suppliers and travel up to 15% when needed.
Nice to have
- Experience with lithium-ion cell behavior, thermal runaway, degradation modes, electrochemical limits, cell characterization, and abuse testing.
- Familiarity with thermal simulation, model correlation, and battery safety standards such as UN 38.3, UL 1642/1973, or SAE J2464.
- Background in small EVs, two-wheelers, or light electric mobility platforms.
- Experience managing technical relationships with certification laboratories and regulatory agencies.
