Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: NYC Office, United States

Salary: $170,000–$230,000 annual base salary plus equity.

What you will do

• Extend backend systems to support new banking features, higher transaction volumes, and internal business functions.
• Maintain deposit account and debit card products delivered through a Banking as a Service partner.
• Design scalable microservice architecture for additional personalized financial services.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams to build new financial offerings.
• Develop software patterns, tools, testing, and observability processes that improve reliability and delivery speed.
• Plan engineering execution with leadership across multiple time horizons.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience with Python and Postgres.
• Experience building backend systems that increase in complexity over time.
• Strong software engineering practices and developer productivity mindset.
• Product thinking, critical thinking, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with GraphQL.
• Experience with DevOps technologies such as Terraform, AWS, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with pub/sub models such as Kafka.
