Sr. Staff Functional Safety Engineer (Automotive)

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate functional safety activities for assigned programs in accordance with ISO 26262 and internal management system requirements.
• Create safety plans, monitor execution, maintain safety cases, and communicate safety status, risks, and progress to senior management.
• Support development of Safety Manuals, Development Interface Agreements, safety analyses, and hardware analyses including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA, and DFA.
• Conduct safety impact analyses for product errata and support requirements traceability across the development lifecycle.
• Participate in internal and external functional safety audits, assessments, reviews, and approvals.
• Collaborate with program management, architecture, cybersecurity, design, design verification, software, and system test teams to ensure safety requirements are implemented and verified.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 8 years of hands-on hardware or software engineering experience in the semiconductor industry.
• Deep understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 and experience managing functional safety across the full product lifecycle.
• Experience with embedded systems, hardware safety analysis, IP development lifecycles, ASIC design methodologies, and certification body assessments.
• Experience using requirements traceability, version control, and project management tools such as Jama, Jira, and GitHub.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, independent working ability, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Formal functional safety certification.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO/SAE 21434 automotive cybersecurity standards.
