Tech Lead - Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Newport Beach, California, USA

Base salary: $220,000–$250,000 USD per year, plus equity and potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead development and expansion of the core ontology powering security configuration analysis, AI security, and threat detection products.
• Work with a team of 3–6 software engineers and data scientists to support hundreds or thousands of enterprise application platforms.
• Automate repeatable research and development subtasks across complex application integrations.
• Develop expertise in identity, authentication, authorization, network, and data security across platforms such as GitHub, Salesforce, and Workday.
• Translate security challenges into data and machine learning problems while refining customer outcomes with enterprise security teams.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied research.
• Production experience shipping ML or data systems at scale, preferably involving ontologies, knowledge graphs, entity resolution, or semantics across heterogeneous data sources.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and modern ML and data tooling.
• Knowledge of core security domains or the ability to learn them quickly.
• Ability to decompose ambiguous problems into well-scoped subproblems and design statistically rigorous experiments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with technical security practitioners at large enterprises.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• Experience investigating vendor documentation, APIs, and audit logs to identify data sources.
