Data Scientist/Analyst (Cybersecurity)

Location: Fort Meade, Maryland, US; must work on the customer site 5 days/40 hours per week and travel up to 40% CONUS and OCONUS.

Salary: $144,501–$190,000 per year.

What you will do

• Champion the Threat Awareness Sharing Capability suite and conduct threat hunting on assigned Big Data Platforms.
• Present threat-hunt findings through live interactive sessions and assist customers with cyber-hunting operations.
• Define customer requirements and operational gaps, advise on data enrichment, and provide real-time customer support.
• Evaluate data feeds, perform data quality checks, and document feeds and deliverables.
• Support analytic requests using queries, visualizations, and dashboards; apply advanced statistical modeling to uncover patterns.
• Synthesize diverse data streams into customer-facing data products, support demonstrations, and maintain awareness of emerging cyber threats.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.
• 9+ years of experience in cyber security operations with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field; or 7 years with a related master’s degree; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Department of War customers, ideally US Cyber Command, DISA, DCDC, or Service Cyber Components.
• Ability to present analysis to stakeholders with varying levels of data knowledge and speak in public forums.
• Proficiency in query languages including SQL and KQL/Kusto; Python experience; experience with dashboarding and visualizations using Power BI or Superset.
• Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform; cyber-hunt methodologies; SIEMs such as Splunk, Q-Radar, or ELK; and SOARs such as Sentinel, CORTEX, or X-SOAR.
• Experience developing and deploying threat-detection signatures; collecting cyber-defense data such as CVE and OSINT; and recognizing vulnerabilities and associated attacks.
• Ability to read and interpret SNORT, SIGMA, YARA, or YAML signatures; analyze network traffic with TCPDump, Wireshark, or Zeek; and apply MITRE ATT&CK, incident-response, IDS, and IPS methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal, writing, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to support in-person or virtual training events.
• Ability to work at the Fort Meade customer site 5 days/40 hours per week and travel up to 40% CONUS and OCONUS.

Nice to have

• Jupyter notebooks experience.
• Data+, Security+, CySA+, GCIH, GNFA, GCFA, or another recognized cybersecurity certification.
• Department of War SOC experience.
• Experience or familiarity with Big Data Platforms or Data Lake architectures.
