Underwriter (Fintech)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid with 3 days a week in the office

What you will do

• Assess unsecured credit applications using Open Banking data and credit reference agency information.
• Evaluate creditworthiness and make responsible lending decisions in line with underwriting policies.
• Conduct fraud prevention and AML checks, including consideration of customer vulnerability indicators.
• Manage and prioritise an underwriting pipeline to meet turnaround targets.
• Liaise with customers to obtain and verify information when required.
• Improve underwriting processes and procedures while developing underwriting knowledge and skills.

Requirements

• At least two years of proven underwriting experience, ideally in unsecured lending.
• Strong understanding of fraud, AML, customer vulnerability indicators, and emerging risk trends.
• High attention to detail and confidence making sound decisions under time pressure.
• Solid IT and numerical skills, with clear written English and effective verbal communication.
• Strong organisation, pipeline management, time-management, and prioritisation skills.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues beyond immediate responsibilities.

Nice to have

• Experience underwriting with Open Banking or transaction data rather than credit file data alone.
• Familiarity with FCA Consumer Duty and responsible lending requirements.
