Chief of Staff (Space, Defense & National Security)

Location: Washington, DC; U.S. government ITAR eligibility required

Base salary: $200,000–$240,000 USD per year, plus incentive plan eligibility

What you will do

• Act as the CEO’s primary strategic partner, providing candid counsel on organizational design, market positioning, and capital allocation.
• Lead the executive team’s operating rhythm, including agendas, decision capture, ownership assignment, and commitment tracking.
• Build organizational infrastructure such as meeting frameworks, decision templates, reporting cadences, strategic planning tools, and accountability systems.
• Engage with M&A targets and strategic partners, conduct preliminary assessments, and contribute to deal evaluation.
• Drive cross-functional execution across engineering, operations, business development, talent, finance, and compliance.
• Maintain enterprise KPI dashboards and lead special projects including acquisition integration, restructuring, and new-site stand-up.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in business, engineering, public administration, or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of experience in strategy, operations, or consulting.
• 2+ years as a Chief of Staff, Director of Strategy, or equivalent supporting a CEO, President, or General/Flag Officer.
• Direct experience in defense, national security, and/or space, with an understanding of government contracting.
• Experience building organizational capabilities and infrastructure in a high-growth environment with limited existing processes.
• Public speaking or external representation experience at industry events.

Nice to have

• Technical background in engineering, computer science, or physics.
• Management consulting or investment banking experience focused on defense or aerospace and defense.
• Experience in energetics, space systems, hypersonics, or related defense technology.
• Experience leading M&A due diligence, integration planning, post-acquisition integration, or corporate development.
