Spacecraft Systems Engineer (Space Systems)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person—a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual—and must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR regulations.

What you will do

• Develop lunar landers and other space-based systems across the full program life cycle.
• Manage concepts of operations, mission and system requirements, technical budgets, launch vehicle requirements, fault management, configuration, and interface control.
• Plan verification and validation activities and identify technical risks and mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical guidance to system and subsystem engineering teams and support or lead program systems engineering activities.
• Prepare interface documents, integration plans, and operations plans for partners and payload organizations.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines, the Mission Director, partners, and customers to resolve technical challenges and deliver proposals, reports, presentations, and demonstrations.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of relevant space mission experience; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in several areas including systems engineering, avionics, power, propulsion, communications, flight software, mission management, trajectory analysis, risk management, or system configuration management.
• Strong understanding of space and launch vehicle mission environments.
• Must meet U.S. Person requirements and be eligible for required U.S. export authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience developing space systems from feasibility studies through flight and mission operations.
• Experience leading engineering teams or working with human-rated space systems.
• Knowledge of systems verification and validation, range safety compliance, EMI/EMC verification, or model-based systems engineering.
• Mission operations experience with space systems or similar programs.
